I'm new to the being an agent on HMRC but have been surprised to find that you can't view outstanding balances for PAYE and VAT. I need to find this information out but I'm thinking that as HMRC don't offer this information to an agent online that they're unlikely to provide this information over the phone or am I wrong? How do you get around this? Unfortunately it's not as simple as trawling through past records and payments as my client thinks they may have been using the wrong references and accounts for payments I.e. making vat payment to paye.
