I've finally ready to start, but i would like to know if it is possible to self study lvl 2, and how i be able to go about it?
i understand i will need to register with aat as a student, and do exam as a external student. but i believe this way would be the cheapest option to get going on the aat qualification.
Yes it would, I will be starting level 2 in about 3 weeks time, self studying using Osborne books. You'll be looking at £100-£150 for the study material, plus, as you say, aat registration and exam fees.
You will need a training provider for the computerised accounting unit as this is marked by a training provider not the AAT. All the rest can be done via self study

I found it just as good buying the previous years books from ebay. The only units I purchased the current books were the 2 tax modules in the final year.
