hope that you don't mind, I edited the post as its one of those sites that grabs you and won't let the unwary off unless you press the box (and these sites often don't necessarily do what they say in those boxes). Protection of site members and all that.
As to the more general question, I can't remember this one from the dozens of others that clutter up my inbox each day.
I have noticed a new trend that you now get messages such as "bookkeeping Enquiry" from a random person name and then when you scan it in your outlook viewing panel (I never actually open these) its just another sales company promising 20+ new clients every month. Look at the small print though and the only guarantee that they have is that they will take your money.
This one's another directory service where they buy a list or lists of businesses. Reformat the results and then sell them.
I'm not seeing how these companies make money as there are too many players in that market and all of them are selling basically the same lists to the same market but in different packaging.
Te above said, have you had a call yet from the company selling access to MLR information as a side part of that is to be able to list all businesses of certain types in an area with contact details etc. Seems to me that combination of credit check / director check / company check / general MLR / marketing all in one up to date online service is a much better option than just paying for lists of businesses which is what many of these companies are selling.
Just my two penneth worth, hope something in there helps.
kind regards,
Shaun.

after checking out the site I didn't click the box that stops you leaving it but rather backed out.
However, just visiting the site switched off my Pop Up Blocker in Firefox and unnoticed I had windows appear for a gambling site, a porn site and an advert for Sky (no comment on that combination).
I've just let Spybot and Norton do their magic and I've manually restored the pop-up blocker in Firefox.
In future ALL blind hyperlinks will be removed from the site unless they are traceable to a trusted source (UK based member websites, accountingweb, opentuition, training provider and professional body sites, etc.).
And as a get out of jail free card for me in case I miss any embedded links : Any damage caused is the responsibility of the person posting the link, not the BKN site.
Sorry all but its for your own safety.

Sorry I didn't realise.
Didn't think it was right :(
Anyway at least we no. I have a free index add and I had an email saying I have a bookkeeping enquiry from them. So got a little excited as yiu do lol. Then realised it was only someone trying to sell them crap :(
That just reminded me Stuart that I had something from FreeIndex today too. Same as you an 'enquiry' from Gerda @ the same place you had! I have marked it spam for the people at FreeIndex, apparently they ban them then!
