Hi Would anyone mind explain how tax submission software works? I've been looking at Andica and tax filer. I haven't used any yet, but thinking I should, mainly as I am hopefully going to get a new clients that is a partnership and now understand I need software in order to submit the partnership return. But am also thinking of use then for SA Thanks stuart

I think you're doing the right thing by trialing a couple. What suits you won't suit everyone. I think most have a facsimilie of the paper forms but this won't make much difference if you're used to using HMRC say.

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/online/internet-filing-index.htm

There's a good place to start if you haven't done so already.  Half a dozen would give you a good idea of what's available and the prices vary considerably.

TaxCalc has a questionnaire process AND the option to fill-in as if you would on paper. On price and helpfulness I would recommend it to you even though I think there are a few rough edges. It has an improved Admin Hub of late.

As to how it works - it could be carrier pigeons for all I know. Pretty tough these days because they have to fly to Cardiff instead of Manchester :)

Kind regards, Tim

Andica is quite simple to use- it pretty much mimics the return and then submits using the gateway ID entered.

The thing I like about Andica is the pricing structure works on the number you want to use- I usually only need the 1-3 so it costs under £20 usually

I only use this for partnership returns if they are going after the paper deadline, for normal self assessment I use HMRC website -its free so why pay for software?

Hope this helps

Sharon

Thanks guys So it just links using the gateway ID :) that's alright It's a shame the wwebsites don't have clips of someone showing you around the software so you see what it's like, unless I'm being blind ; p Yh I think I may only use it for this partnership I'm hoping to get. All my SA I have done using HMRC. Thanks for the info. Stuart

Would 2nd Taxcalc.

Fully integrated with Taxcalc accounts production and the information can be imported into the tax return.

Tax return module really easy to use using the simplestep process where depending on your answers to the questions will take you to the relevant screens to populate.

If you only need tax software for a few returns then might be worth looking at something like taxfiler or something else that charges per return submitted.

But if you have a number of accounts and tax returns to be submitted (both corporate and self assessment) then taxcalc works as the price is fixed irrespective of the number of clients you have.  Currently I have over 150 so at £900 + VAT per year works out at least than £6+VAT per client.

The practice management module isnt as good as something like IRIS or Digita but I happy to use excel spreadsheets for practice management rather than paying £000 extra per year to IRIS or Digita.

Cant comment on Taxfiler

But to get approval via Taxcalc you either print off and get them to sign, email it to them and get them to confirm by email they are happy for you to submit (quote the unique reference of the return in the email) or what I do is use Hellosign to send to them so they can electronically sign which them comes back to you with a full audit trail.

My clients love it since got it about 6 months ago.   Everyone who has used it says it's so easy to use and speeds up the whole signing process.

Costs about £10 per month.
