Agent code for self assessment and CT

Does anyone know how long it is taking to get an agent code at the moment?  I sent off the relevant letter to HMRC a month ago and am still waiting, but have read somewhere that it should only take a couple of weeks.

I think mine took several weeks but this was a few years ago. HMRC are in a terrible state at them moment, so I wouldn't be surprised if a response is slower than usual.

However, if you can you should try and find a number to give HMRC a call and chase them up. I have had several things go missing recently that I sent to HMRC!!

John, are you definitely referring to the Agent code ie the one that can only be applied for in writing? If so then I need to chase them up!

We may be at cross purposes. I'm referring to the code given to client when you request to be their agent. I apply online using my agent account and client receives code in post 7 to 10 days later.

Thank you both for your replies although I agree that we were at cross purposes John.

I was obviously too impatient as usual since the confirmation of agent registration arrived today  smile
