I am unable to decide what to charge out for payroll, as there seems to be so much variation on different forums. I don't want to do the work for nothing, or overcharge clients.
What do other users charge for running payroll. Do you charge a set up fee or charge for year end.
I charge an hourly rate- it depends on number of employees and changes and how often they are paid as to how much they would get charged plus I charge a one off set up fee if they require me to register them for payroll.
I don't charge for setting them up on my system if they are already registered.
I tend to charge a minimum monthly of £20 which would include up to 5 monthly paid staff or one weekly paid. I then charge £1.50 per payslip above this level (although this may vary depending on the complexity of the job, lots of adjustments needing to be made etc) My biggest client is a payroll job so there is definitely decent money to be had but also a lot of responsibility.
I started charging individually then forgot! Yes forgot to mention it when I took on my latest two clients. I dint even learn after taking on the first of these two! As Homer Simpson would say - Doh! So its in my hourly rate for those two. Hope I wont make that mistake again. All the Accountants I know charge different rates, depending on number on payroll/how often and complexity. When I remember I charge a set up fee/monthly rate and a rate to make amendments (ie new staff/P45), but I dont charge for the P60s.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

I havent started trading yet, so pricing was more to do with business plan. Due to the complexity i think i will charge out accordingly once i know what the client requires.
