I already run a bookkeeping business and now have a few clients asking me to do their payroll.
I am already used to Sage instant payroll and sage one payroll as I do the payroll for my husbands business (am also an employee of his business so not breaking practice licence rules!). So am used to CIS etc....
I'm not sure whether I could/should
a) self study with our old Instant payroll (husbands business has now moved to sageone online) so could save and clear any data and could go online to HMRC to brush up on anything I've not come across in his line of work.
b) buy the self study Sage course including Sage 50/Sage Instant - Does it have to be Sage 50......and brush up using HMRC website...
c) Spend a fortune on an idealschools course - which I'm not sure I need to if I have experience already?
Would really appreciate your honest opinions.
I would also really like to get this exam completed as soon as possible as I am expecting a baby in 13 weeks so any experience/advise/opinions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated. Want to make a decision asap!
I would go with a, you are already doing payroll so do you really need to do a course? Not sure on the rules sage has regarding use of software for a different business but if there is an issue you could try using Money soft or 12pay
I thought Id give you a little reply seen as you were kind enough to give us a mention . Our course does seem expensive but it includes a fully operational copy of Sage 50 Payroll, which is the students for continued use after the training has been completed. However, in your situation this is probably not your best option if you are already operating and used to alternative software. It could be arranged for you to work through the manual aspect of the training to ensure you had a full underpinning knowledge of the subject, if you felt this would be required for preparation for the final exam.
If you feel it would help, why not give us a call.
