Well, when I wrote that, of the 15 posts on page 1, 5 were adverts - 33.3% of the first page IMHO was just spam.
If another firm decided to use this as a portal to advertise financial positions, it would get worse - where would BKN draw the line. Its one thing to have a local business say they are looking for a bookkeeper, but quite another to have a recruitment firm putting up jobs up every day. Most of the users on this site are very thoughtful about not blatantly advertising on this site, and those are the very people who bother to contribute to questions.

But I assume you're reading the forum by visiting it, and clicking on the "Recent Posts" link?
Consider using an RSS reader, instead. This is a separate piece of software that runs on your computer, and can pull in feeds from any blog, forum or news site that provides an RSS feed: the latest posts come to you, rather than you having to go and seek them out.
It makes it very easy to spot the type of post you don't like, and mark it as read without actually opening them.
The downside with this forum is that I don't seem to get all the posts to start with - I'm not sure why that is. I'd guess the underlying software that generates the RSS XML file isn't quite up to scratch.
(FTR, I use FeedDemon Pro - but I don't think it's developed or supported any more, so it might not be available to download).

I do use recent posts, well spotted! I am not clicking into the threads. I just look for titles that I think I could help with. I like that it shows me what I have read and not read, so that I can work out where I was last up to! Been so busy lately!
I just think its a bit rude, when others have to pay for the privilege. (meaning the banners below). Director of Tax isn't really appropriate for a bookkeepers forum to me, either. I hope they are at least paying the yearly sub!
I can appreciate the despaire at seeing a load of posts that you have no interest in. I have exactly the same feeling when I look at the recent posts and its just one Sage question after another.
I was talking with Steve some time ago and it was mentioned that it would be good for the site to have a few job ads in order to encourage people that there are jobs out there.
Currently we seem to be getting the wrong sort of ads for the site with their target market only being applicable to a small number of readers of the site.
Its worth noting that we have a good mix of bookkeepers and accountants here so no job is ever going to be applicable to every reader.
there are not generally that many ads posted and where do we draw the line as to what is applicable to the readership when the jobs are finance related.
On the bright side, seeing the bottom line and the requirements may encourage more people to look at ACCA or ICAEW for career progression although I fear that in all cases unless matched with relevant experience such would be to no avail for the advertised roles.
I've got the right bits of paper but am resolved to the fact that the closest that I will get to the St. Lucia job is carrying the bags of the person who gets the role.
I am not currently seeing the ads as a problem but if they grew to be (i.e. every other post being a job ad or agents dumping there whole portfolio on here) then I would have words with those doing the posting and restrict it.

What I completely failed to explain is that for forums, the RSS feed typically <em>is</em> the "recent posts" or equivalent - and a decent RSS reader can provide some degree of filtering.
That means you can tell it to not show you posts containing key words and phrases such as "opportunity", "looking to hire", "full-time", "part-time" - and posts with those words and phrases in the subject wouldn't appear in your feed.
Been so busy lately!
I know the feeling. I just wish it would reflect in my bank account. :/

How useful are they when those posting them ("Express" mainly - and they are certainly the ones responsible for the one I'm about to mention, and a couple of other examples I looked at...) just perform a straight copy and paste from wherever they are already posted, and brings the formatting across.
That includes this lovely gem for the main bulk of the text: font-size:.7em;
Hint to "Express" if they ever actually read anything on this forum: While I can quickly and easily get around such stupidity and read your posts, the person you are actually LOOKING for might not be able to.
The daft thing is that, since the formatting is a result of the copy and paste from elsewhere, that means that specific example of elsewhere must also have the adverts displayed in a stupidly small size.
The third paragraph (under "Current Opportunities") lists 11 different categories of roles, with nothing to break them down into a list, such as that icky horrible thing we have in English (and other languages) known as "punctuation" (although I would have probably formatted it as an HTML unordered list).

I'm trying to find my 'like' button for your comments Vince! There is no point hinting to such people because if they were clever enough to get the hint then they would be clever enough to check what they wanted to post and make sure it was correct before (and after) the button was pressed for launch! That said - I fortunately had my glasses with me when I read the last one so now Im sunning myself in St Lucia whilst you lot are getting t he tail end of some hurricane or other. I can but dream.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
a few jobs ads are a good thing even if for the most part they are aimed at the wrong audience (see my defence of them above).
Yesterday we had three by Express and thats getting too many as a percent of the posts in a day.
I'm busy this morning and early the afternoon but will take a look at it later today. Clear up the old ads so that there is no risk of them working for SEO purposes and post a message that I hope that Express will read in reply to one of their ads.
One thing that I notice is that Express is supposed to be an agent but they do not even allow you to PM them about the roles that they advertise.
Anyway, I'm on it... Just not at the min.

think that maybe we should restrict Express to only posting job ads for The west Indies, The Seychells and the Far East.
(Hint Express, find me a six figure (sterling!) job in KhonKaen and I'll let you post as much as you like).
