VAT and phone bills

Hi,

One of my clients have sent me his mobile phone bill to claim as a company expense. He is VAT registered and the sole director of the company. Firstly, I'm assuming if this is his only mobile phone then we can only claim a portion as a company expense? The bill is in his name rather than the company's name so can we claim any VAT back on this?

The answer is 'It depends.' Read HMRC Notice 700, chapter 12A for the various options.
