i have to register a company for PAYE . At the moment there will only be directors on the payroll but at some point in the near future they may employ a subcontractor who will be CIS
Should I register the PAYE scheme to include CIS or should I wait until they actually start to use the services of a subcontractor?
You can call them and tell them you will be making nil returns, in this case you dont have to make returns, when you need to make returns you can call them again and start the process up.
Just be careful that they really know that you aren't making returns yet. The penalties for failing to make expected CIS returns are enormous. In a single year you could run up fines of £1000's simply for administrative failure, even if no tax is owed.

If you register online and go on as if you are submitting you can actually tick a box that says you are not expecting to submit any returns in the next 6 months so that should cover you
Ok thank you Sharon, I will do..... Silly thought: What if I tick the box but then 2/3 months down the line they employ a subbie who is under CIS? Will it matter?
