Moneysoft Payroll Manager - changing from monthly to quarterly payments to HMRC
Permalink Closed

Employees are paid weekly and Employer has been paying HMRC every month. But they are below the (monthly) quarterly amount and want to change to quarterly.

How do they go about this? How do you change the settings in Payroll Manager so it gives a total for the quarter, not every month?

How do you inform HMRC - telephone/letter/online/through Payroll Manager? Do you need to inform them?

This isn't actually for myself, but it may crop up for myself anyway at a later date so I will be prepared. Even if they did not bother actually informing HMRC I think the interest will be pennies anyway as the amount owed is so little.

Found it.
It was hidden in the "Pay Dates" - I just saw the changing pay dates would alter pay calculations and came out of that screen. Never knew they'd hidden the HMRC payment dates in there as well.

Hi
I thought in was in the Pay --> Tax and NI actually paid section. If you update this if the previous month hasnt been paid it will pull it forward to your next report.

The guidance notes on the gov.uk site say '' You may be able to pay quarterly if you usually pay less than £1,500 per month - contact HMRCs payment enquiry helpline''. Im guessing if you dont get their agreement they will start charging fines for non receipt of payments by the usual deadline dates.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

The report would still be done monthly that way - with the amounts brought forward. Changing it to quarterly means the report covers the three months.

Are there fines for late payment - I thought it was just interest on the amount of Tax/NI owed? And as I said the interest would amount to peanuts. Likely less the cost of a stamp/bank charges for a cheque. Fair enough there may be a fine if there's no payment for six months but I'm sure it will just be interest for others.
