Quickbooks Unassigned Vat Amount
Permalink Closed

Hi

I'm using quickbooks Pro 2010 and have encountered this problem for the first time. Having filed a vat return online for last quarter, QB is flagging up in the VAT 100 report for that period an unassigned vat amount - this is identical to the net VAT to pay amount.

I have run the unassigned vat amounts detail report.  This shows the journal entry for the VAT due on sales amount and the VAT reclaimed on purchases amount. From what I can see, QB hasn't automatically entered the VAT item (standard sales/standard purchases) and won't let me entered them manually.

I have paid the amount from suppliers/bills to pay.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks.

Hi

This seems to be an error that happens sometimes in Quickbooks. You need to follow the steps below:

- Take a back up of your file in case anything goes wrong
- Undo your last VAT return by deleting the last VAT journal (this is not advised, so make sure you have your back up in case anything goes wrong)
- Close Quickbooks (the whole thing, not just the company file) using file, exit - do not click the red 'x'
- Re open Quickbooks
- File your VAT return again

This should work. Sometimes, if you close Quickbooks using the red 'x' it causes problems within the software. You should always close it using File, Exit.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Zöe
