A jobless man applied for the position of cleaner at Acme greetings card's. A major manufacturer in that field.
The Human Resources manager gave him a test of cleaning the office floor and the applicant did a good job so was offered the job there and then.
"Just give me your e-mail address, and I'll get the paperwork sent straight to you".
"But I don't have a computer and have no access to email" replied the applicant.
"I'm sorry then" replied the manager. "If we cannot email you the details then we cannot hire you".
Very depressed at not getting the role the man went home but took a detour via a local market. Whilst walking through he saw some very attractive greetings cards sold in packs of 100 for £10. That was all the money that he had on him but thought that there was an opportunity here.
With the cards he went door to door selling 5 cards for £1.50 and within the day he tripled his money.
Next day he did the same but this time with £30 of stock and again trippled his money.
Very quickly he was buying larger stock quantities at a discount. He bought a van, he employed staff. The business grew and grew until he had offices, warehouses, shops and hundreds of staff working for him. The owner became a very successful director with a great deal of personal wealth.
One day a representative of Acme greetings cards approached this director of a now major retailer in their sector and negotiated a great deal for both of them.
At the end of the meeting the head of the sales team asked the director for his personal email address in order to send accross the paperwork.
"I don't have an email address" replied the director.
Quite shocked the salesman questioned "You don't have email! Can you imagine what you could have been if you did!!!".
And with a wry smile the director retorted "A cleaner".
On this run up to new year I hope that all sites readers, no matter where they are on their personal journeys take a moment to reflect that in the greater scheme of things the only real difference between the the person at the top of the tree, the one cleaning their offices and the one who cannot find work is opportunity and circumstance so treat everyone as you would expect to be treated yourself.
No matter what may have befallen you in 2014 be it success or failure it's now gone and cannot be altered by dwelling upon it.
Make 2015 the year where you make a real change in your fortunes and never lose sight of the person that you are.
Well, saved it to the end but that's used up my entire soap box quota for the year.
Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous new year,
kindest regards,
Shaun.
