Teamviewer 10 i controlled my laptop from my mobile, but I couldn't control the mobile from the laptop. I believe it's free for personal use, but they tell you it's not for commercial purposes. There are surely others. You need to install it on both platforms probably.
After installing you need to have the other PC's "Partner ID" and their "password" code. I haven't tested it extensively.
Windows 8 has it's own remote access software already on the system. I'm able to log in to my bosses computer so I can use his Sage software for one of our clients.
Can anyone recommend any good free software to access other PCs remotely (not LogMein)?
Hi Cheshire, You can also take a look on GoToMyPC to access your PC from anywhere, they are offering 30 days trial.
Thank you for this idea. My client is looking for a freebie so Teamviewer fits her bill better at the moment, but I will add this to my list of potentials ones for the future as you never know when people might ask.

If you want client to be able to connect their PC's to you then UltraVNC single click is great, but it takes a bit of setting up, or PC Helpware, which bneeds less setting up. These to are free for commercial use (I think).
For just about anything Sage :- switch to renting, pay-as-you-go sage support, sagecover, upgrades, application integration, reports, layouts, analysis or any other help making life with sage easier/less time consuming Contact me.
Hi Bruce
It's more the unattended use I need so thanks, I will take a look at the first one you mention in particular.
The second and third- you put me off by the 'takes a bit of petting up' cos I'm so bad at such things (!!!) but wouldn't want a client looking at my stuff fortunately. Will add to my useful list of software though as you never know when you might be asked for such things
Thanks again

No, not the client looking at your stuff. The client initiating the connection to you. They have to do something on their PC to connect you up, you can't just access their PC without thier permission.
As you may know connecting to someones PC without their permission is a criminal offence, so you need to be very careful and make sure you have their express permission in writing before using a service that allow you to access someones PC potentially without their permission.
Where they have to initiate the connection, their permission is implicit in that they have initiated the connection.
This is why having something they have to run to connect you is a desirable option.

I do have their permission and now understand what you mean - did the same with LogMeIn a couple of years ago.
