I was just thinking and do you know sometimes when you have a question for hmrc it would be easier to pop it into an email.
As when you phrase it over the phone it might not make sense or if you write a letter it can take a while to come back.
Email is quite a good way especially for more general advice or questions.
Maybe just a random thought perhaps.
Whilst it was true that the introduction of 0845 numbers was a revenue earner for all Gov departments, the switch to 0300 numbers means that's no longer the case. It hasn't shortened the queue waiting sadly, but I blame that on not enough staff to answer calls. That said, the agent helpline doesn't keep you waiting too long, pity it's not available for all the services.
And email is coming...or at least an online version of it. 3rd paragraph of the link says "It will also have a secure personal mailbox facility to allow HMRC to communicate electronically with taxpayers."
Now, how well that will be implemented is anybody's guess, but from what I've read of HMRC strategy so far, it may well be good. I found this quite interesting when I read it a couple of months ago
Hi John
I guess the questions is - does the 'secure personal mailbox facility to allow HMRC to communicate electronically with taxpayers' allow two way communication?
Shaun has not been able to get out of his chair for all the cake he ate - well it was two securicor vans full in the end wasnt it! Have you not seen the press comment - man wanders round supermarket with check stuck to his arse? lol
You could have the same - I will send a batch if I ever get time to bake again. Just need to know what the favourites are.
Yes Shaun - I will send some more of my buns to you too.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

I'd like to think it will work that way, and that's the impression I gained - seems pointless if it doesn't.

Hahahaha - what a sight to behold!
You could have the same - I will send a batch if I ever get time to bake again. Just need to know what the favourites are.
I don't think even I could manage two securicor van loads lol - but anything that's not just plain sponge.
Yes Shaun - I will send some more of my buns to you too.
Could he manage even more?
