I have a haulage company with no fuel receipts however all fuel is purchased via card and therefore shows on the bank statements.
I notice on a few of the receipts (that he does have) there are other purchases such as snacks so when I have gone through the statements with him I have asked what he is claiming for fuel. To be fair on most of the transactions he has rounded it down as he says he usually puts a rounded figure in at a time (£50, £60 etc).
My question is that when it comes to doing the tax return, there is a part where it asks if I have used Estimated figures. Do I tick this box?
No these arent estimated figures as there is clear evidence that they have been paid from the bank statement.
Ok you dont have the invoices to get the split between fuel and snacks but if the amount is say £51.50 then would be reasonable to assume that £50 is fuel and £1.50 is for snacks if the client says they usually put in fuel of a round sum amount (as most people do).
An estimated figure is where you dont have any evidence of the figure.
