Hi ,

A client completed a P50 and submitted it along with his P45 to HMRC to claim back the tax paid in the year. He started up a company as a sole director and now has to complete (or I do) a self assessment. My question is: How do I complete the SA Employment part if I don't know what he earned in the tax year?

Is this a late self assessment? if not I would wait until he gets something in writing back from HMRC before doing anything.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Hi Joanne,

No, its for the tax year 14/15 . He said HMRC have written to him. From what I understand he was made redundant in the tax year  and sent off a P50.

Hi Georgie

He should have received a revised P45 from HMRC when they issued the refund. You use the details from this on his self assessment form.

Lol, what can I say, he's a client!!

He will have been sent one - unfortunately I suspect he was only interested in the cheque. He (you?!) will need to get on to HMRC and get the details from them.

Gotta love clients!

Helen
