Loving into? lol

I don't understand all of this non PC technology. Why do you ever log out of the site? Doesn't this new fangled Ipad thingy have tabs on it's web browser? (someone's going to tell me now that Ipads don't have things like firefox).

That's the iPad autocorrect it does my head in putting in words I don't want....

iPads don't have Firefox but I think you already knew that really.

I can save the URL to the screen but I don't get any notifications of posts or anything where as a app would have notifications with it, but I guess can't have everything.

"Why do you ever log out of the site?"

One good reason for logging out of the site is because you operate a sensible cookie management policy which results in most cookies (i.e. except those you have permitted to remain) being deleted when your browsing session ends. That browsing session ends when you quit the browser.

As far as the web browser The iPad has Safari, obviously - but I don't know about Firefox. I believe Apple has a policy of not allowing apps in its app store that duplicate functions already provided by apps they supply - so a web browser would fall foul of that, unless there are exceptions and Firefox falls under one. I'd be surprised if Safari didn't support tabbed browsing.

And going back to Eilef's question:

"Is there an App for this forum for the iPad"

For a while, writing apps for iOS/Android to duplicate perfectly good functionality already present by using a web browser was all the rage - but, thankfully, that silliness has more or less died a death now, so I doubt if there is one.

However, it's possible to read (not post) using a separate app - have a look in Apple's app store thingy for an RSS reader. When you've found one, you should be able to subscribe to RSS/Atom feeds on those sites that provide them - news sites and forums typically do, with the forum RSS feed usually carrying its "Recent posts" (in reverse order that they were made, not neatly arranged by thread).

In the case of this forum, the feed is found at the bottom right of the home page - look for an orange button marked "RSS".

However, unlike some forums I use, the RSS feed for this one doesn't include any formatting from the posts - so you just see the whole of each post (including any quoting) as a single block of text.

Another problem is that I frequently miss posts - that's a result of a combination of factors: I have FeedDemon set to only check feeds once per hour when it's loaded, and this forum's feed doesn't carry many posts - so the more active it is, the more I miss. If you go down the RSS route, you might want to adjust your settings as you see fit.

No, I really didn't. We have absolutely no apple products at all.

Hi Vince,

cheers for that. I just has a quick glance at the Mozilla site and apparently Firefox will be coming to iOS devices this year.

I got that from here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/is-firefox-available-iphone-or-ipad

So it's a watch this space for people who haven't bought a proper computer yet (lol...).

Lol.  wink     That ipad autocorrect has got me into trouble a few times!

I leave BKN open on the ipad all the time - it doesnt even log off when I log off via my PC. Yes you might have to check when there are new posts or you can subscribe to the ones you want so you get email but at least its better than viewing it on the iphone - now thats rubbish!

You have a dislike button on the iPhone already - it's the one that turns the power off! :p
