One off payment to casual worker

My client had his son help him out on a job. He obviously wants to pay him a one-off payment for this job. Does this need to go through payroll? If so how do I process it? Also if it doesn't need to go through payroll, how do I process it on Sage?

If you already run PAYE scheme and do RTI you need to include him. If your don't run PAYE and all workers on below LEL and meet certain criteria then no. Can't find HMRC link at mo, will try tomoz, if I remember, unless you find it in the meantime
