I have just been looking at first intuition as I may be looking at finally finishing my AAT. The cost of the basic course looks good but I'm wondering what level this is aimed at. Does anyone know if it is for people working in an accountancy firm or would someone with limited knowledge and resources be capable of passing?

Hi Steve,

This package is aimed at people who don't feel they need any tutor support, and marking or online lectures.  It is literally just books and nothing else.

There are plenty of people who self study and dont work in accounts who succeed, just like there are those that need a little support.

If you have any questions just let me know.

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick

Thank you for the reply.

Do the AAT still have past papers?

Hi Steve,

no but they do have a couple of mock exams for every unit (except tax where they only have one)

Our basics package comes with 3 mock exams in them.

You may have hooked me :) I'm ok if I know what to expect, just need to talk to the keeper of the purse.

Do the mocks have the answers so I can see how wrong I'm getting it.

Hi Steve
You can get mocks on the AAT site as well once you become a student member - so then you will have access to 5 mocks - should be more than enough! The AAT provide the answers too. Go for it

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Thanks Nick, it seems all in order, I'm just a bit miffed that the AAT have managed to slip a unit in that requires a provider, it bumps the cost up a bit. On the plus side it's still affordable smile

Thanks Cheshire, I think I will be going for it. I managed level 3 without tutor support plus I now have a friendly accountant that doesn't mind helping me out ...... as long as I don't take the mickey biggrin

Do you have to pay for the whole course or can you just pay for a single module, complete it then order the next module? Also if you go for the basic and decide you want tutor support can you upgrade and just pay the difference?

Hi Steve
Yes you can purchase them on a modular basis, although I think it would work out dearer in the long run (not sure by how much though as Ive never tested it). Individual prices are on their website I think. Not sure about the latter - will leave that one for Nick.

Hi Joanne

Thank you for the reply. I'd like to go one module at a time I think, it may just be psychological but it would seem easier to me to be only thinking about them one at a time :)

Hi,

Yes you can buy the books on a per unit basis, which is £35 per unit.

Yes, you can upgrade on a per unit basis level as well.  So potentially you could do budgeting on your own, and the get tutor support/tutor marked material for financial performance, and the price would just be the difference, or upgrade to live online if you like.

Any questions just let me know

thanks

Nick
