Not that I bought it anyway (just received a link to the pull out this morning), but on Saturday September the 27th there was a thinly veiled eight page pull out advert for "Vouched For" declaring the UK's top accountants as the one's that they have on their list of members who have been recomended by their clients.
Whilst I am sure that all of the accountants on the list are excellent at what they do how dare the Daily Mail (#1) suggest that these accountants are the best to their readers who will no doubt use that pullout to judge whether their existing representation is on it.
Nobody from a professional body should be seeking to claim superiority of service and the idea of saying that one is "the best" or even indicating that one is better than any other member of the same professional body should be a totally alient concept to accounting professionals.
There is one thing when we vote amongst ourselves to give each other well deserved pats on the back but when a business such as Vouched For dares to suggest that the people on its list are in any way better than anyone else with the same qualification.... Shakes lowered head at the Daily Mails lack of understanding of professional ethics in publishing this advert as though it was in any way based in fact.
Well, thats wound me up for a Monday morning.
#1 Its a Vouched For pull out but the Daily Mail chose to publish it as if it had some basis in fact.

We work incredibly hard on behalf of our customers, we do the donkey work in preparing customer accounts for accountants to often take all the glory.
Then why not become an accountant, I hear one or two say..... I for one, love the contact I have with my customers, I enjoy the challenges I am given on a daily basis and I take pride in what I produce for my customers. I am always willing to take time out and talk, get to know and encourage my customers, I offer a professional and personalised service.
In my experience to date, some accountants are not able to provide the the same level of contact some customers need, and often customers only get a chance to speak face to face once or maybe twice a year. This may be due to their own workload and increased red tape which affects us all these days.
Bookkeeping is a very rewarding profession but sadly not as fully appreciate as some other professions. Articles such as the Daily Mails do us an disservice.
Just remember it will be tomorrow's chip paper !!!!
Agree with most of what Julie says, in that there are some Accountants who like to try to take all the glory and denigrate good bookkeepers at every turn, but there are also some great Accountants out there who dont, like Shaun and a few others on this site I could mention (and to be fair all the Accountants, bar one, whom I deal with).
I had a quick look at this Vouched For website. I know one of the Accountants on there - I know for a fact he has hundreds of clients yet ONLY 16 of his clients have logged anything on Vouched For......so that says to me that the likes of the Daily Mail should not be publishing such an article as fact, regardless of the FACT that not all Accountants are on and rated by the particular site they have chosen to use, as well as the other reasons Shaun puts way better than I could.
Yes its tomorrow's chip paper and as we all know newspapers spin the truth, exaggerate, have NO professional ethics and wouldnt know the meaning of that phrase if it bit them all on the bum, that no-one should believe 99.9 of what they put....unfortunately people do!

Sorry to change the subject a little, but I was told yesterday that I was "a winner" with the Global Finance Awards...
Congratulations! Fox Accountancy Services (Manchester) Ltd is a winner in Wealth & Finance INTLs 2015 Finance Awards! You have been awarded:
Client-Focussed Accountancy Firm of the Year - UK & Best for Tailored Accounting Packages - UK
Wow, I hear you say.. of ALLLLLL the accountants in the UK, I seem to have won. Then they hit you with the cost of your win... which start at £10k and works it way down to £295 for a trophy.... they almost had me!
Not even going to mention the spelling mistake, or the fact that, this morning, a lady from the same firm, asked me to accept my nomination.. so when I asked if it was a scam.... they kinda lied!
Ah - congrats Michelle. A winner before you even accepted your nomination too, although Ive never heard of having to accept a nomination. If they are going to pull a scam you would think they might try to be a bit clever about it - and not approach clever people!!!!!! Whatever next hey!

Hi Jo... I accepted the nomination 2 weeks ago, from a guy... who told me yesterday I'd won.... but now I have another email from a girl
I looked up the company and everything! They are getting good these people! Oh well, Ive took a screenshot of my email for twitter... if I didnt know, no one else will :))
Sounds like another one to add to the police and fire service charity calendar advertising list.
Got to ask, what would you have got for £10K?... Or was that just a nothinness to make £295 sound reasonable?
