My accounts y/e is 30th Sep 2015 and my accounts are due to be filled with companies house 30 June 2016, however, I have just received a Notice to deliver a company tax return from HMRC?
Do they require this in advance of the filing date at companies house or do they just send this notifications out really early?
The tax return (there will two CT600's if the accounting period is more than 365 days) needs to be submitted by 30th September 2016, however if there is any tax to pay that needs to be paid no later than 1st July 2016

Ok thanks, so if there is tax to pay I have to pay it following the filing period i.e. 01/07/2016 and if there is no tax to pay I get a year. Have I understood that correctly?
Being the pain in the bum that I am, I would change the year end to March 31, file 6 months accounts by 31 Dec (presuming no tax to pay, and then have the year end running in line with tax year - easier for dividends and PAYE etc). This saves you having to pull the figures together at March, to decide if there can to be dividends (once making profits) and then having to do them again at 30 September
As John says - pay within 9 months, file within 12.
