I applied for my agent code way back in August at the same time as applying for HMRC MLR. I got a letter back from HMRC CAAT at the beginning of October requesting details of my MLR, which I sent to them with my HMRC MLR certificate. I'm now sitting in limbo, waiting for HMRC to (hopefully) wave their magic wands, return my MLR certificate and give me an agent code. Based on the previous letter's timescale I should hear something by the end of November :(
Obviously time is ticking on and I'd like to try and get some work asap. Can I function without an agent code? Is there any work around in the short term? I can't even ring CAAT to check everything's ok, because they don't even have a phone number!
Mine came through pretty quickly - maybe phone the agent helpline?
You can create accounts as if you were the client and use those until you get your code? Not ideal but gets you on your way. You'll just have to wait for the client to receive the activation code, but thats usually a week
Thanks Michelle. I tried the agent's helpline and they were pretty useless. They just said that if I've not received anything within 6 weeks I should write again, which just means I'll go to the back of the queue again! It's good to know there is a workaround if I get desperate, I'll try holding out a bit longer if I can.
Hi They used to say c6 weeks, reckon it was about 4 before I got mine, although not all agent codes come on one letter, so there maybe a day or two between letters.
