I can never remember either

For PAYE
You will need your client's
Employers PAYE Reference
Accounts Office Reference

For VAT
You will need your client's
VAT Registration Number
Principal Place of Business postcode
date of registration for VAT
final month of last VAT return submitted
box 5 figure on last VAT return submitted

that's from the HMRC authorize a client page

Cheers

Alison

Hi Alison
Oh good - thats what Ive just asked for, thank you so much! I have also sent him agent forms 64-8 and FBi2 just so I have his signature, but to be honest I was going to do the request authorisation online - is it just the user ID for each that I require? Thats the bit Im going a blank on.

No. Their user ID is for them alone.

If you authorise online a letter will be posted out to them with an authorisation code which I think you have to use within 28 days. You then go back to the authorise client page and put in this code and maybe half a day later you'll have access to (some of) their records. For PAYE you won't have access to the payment details - although there is a trial going on (thread on here recently) where you can also see this. Useful to know if there are any penalties/interest.

Hi Joanne, I know you have figured this out now, but just for anyone else...

If you already have an Agent ID, you go into "services you can add" in the main menu, and enrol for the agent service you want to add on.
