Moneysoft Payroll Manager
Permalink Closed

Good evening.

Nor sure if its OK to past this type of problem, if not I apologise  in advance.

We have used Payroll Manager for some years and it has always worked extremely well, and the support when rarely needed has been excellent.

However this month when attempting to email from Payroll Manager I received the following message :  "Could not connect to the email server."

No settings have been changed since last month, and I checked this be inserting them again.

I also checked by changing from my Business email to a GMail account with the same failure.

No new software has been added, and using Office 365.

I initially had a problem some months ago  when our Norton virus software was updated, it saw Moneysoft as suspicious but I have "allowed it" and no longer a problem.

This is a known issue.

I have spoken with Moneysoft and was advised Norton "was a problem" but that did not really help much.

I temporally disabled the firewall and Norton with the problem still persisting. ( Firewall and Norton now back on )

I am currently using a workaround by saving the payslips as PDF documents and sending them as Outlook email attachments  but this is not really satisfactory.

The same problem is found on another networked PC

I just wondered if anyone else had had a similar problem, and hopefully found a solution

Thank you

Jay.

Now you come to mention it Jay, I had this problem recently. But I don't use Norton. Thought it was due to a complete change over to a new PC where I had re-installed the software and not yet updated everything.

I had got into the habit of saving everything as PDFs before emailing them separately to clients anyway, so I always have access to such docs I decide to close down Moneysoft. I only tried the email facility once to show my son (in training to take over the Empire) it could be done that way, and that's when it failed. I must have another look and see if it's due to another issue. Might not be today though, absolutely bombed....will add it to the ever increasing list of things to do between Christmas and New Year (when I'm supposed to be on holiday!!!! Oops)

Hi Jay

I use Moneysoft and don't normally email payslips - I use BOX and send the client a shared link to the folder, so they can download the payslips. However, just to 'test out' your problem, I put my email address in one of my client files - and I'm getting the same problem........cannot connect to server...!

Hi Jay

Just tried it myself, and it works.

It could be that your port number needs changing.

If you have port 465 in there which is SSL then I couldn't get that to work. But TLS with port 587 did.

Try changing your outging port to 587 and just double check that you have the correct hostname.  It will probably be something like smtp.yourdomain.co.uk or mail.yourdomain.co.uk or if you are using an ISP check what their smtp is.

Let me know how you get on.

I don't use the mail option myself, although I'm sure its much easier than mailing direct.

Good afternoon all.

Many thanks for the kind replies, all appreciated.

Looking at the guidance from John it looked like it was  something to do with the smtp settings.

Ouir Moneysoft PAYE/CIS emails were originally send to a gmail account, and then CC to our company email address and the final email to our client.

I tried every variation of port settings and in the end deleted the gmail  details and used our company email as the first email and CC to client.

It worked !

Thinking about  it, I cant remember why gmail was used in the first place???

So for those who have a similar problem, try excluding gmail as the primary email.

Off for a walk on the beach, its February.

Thank you

Jay

Must admit to not even trying to sort this one. My supposed quiet spell between Christmas and New Year never happened and Im still bombed now. Noted about gmail, thank you, although I had mine to a yahoo account so I really must have another try.

You are very lucky Jay to have some lovely beaches.....just across the solent from the New Forest too. The last time I was on the Isle of Wight was on a stranded speed boat which had sucked up a pile of pebbles into the engine.....we didnt let that stop us though! I think my son remembers the day better for having sucked up half the solent as he was learning to water ski - we did try to tell him to always keep your mouth closed when you come off your skis. His Grandad was just the same!

Yahoo will only accept SMTP messages from a 3rd party application such as Moneysoft if you have a paid Yahoo account. Gmail and Hotmail will accept messages from free accounts. You may have a paid Yahoo account, of course, in which case my comment isn't relevant to you.
