Wages?

Hi,

I think I'm going to be asking for help rather a lot . I have a bad feeling about this.  Client wants me to put nearly £5000 through the accounts for "wages" as their ex looks after the website and they also charge them rent. No invoices, receipts , nothing....And no there isn't a payroll

No Payroll, no wages.

Your client would have Auto Enrolement, RTI, training, sickness, etc. responsibilities if they took their ex on as a employee.

Advise client to tell ex to set herself up as a website design business and to bill him for work done (and also find her self some other clients to avoid being a pseudo employee).

Sorry, can you rephrase the bit about who charges who rent and explain that bit in more detail.

If rent is being paid to the ex without documentation (i.e. so that it doesn't get declared as income by the ex) then should you not be reporting her for money laundering? (potential tax evasion).

Sounds like the sort of client that you need to be strong with and ensure from the get go that they realise that you work with them, not for them.

Hi Shamus

Problem has gone away, after further investigation I have handed the books back. I knew it was going to bad news when I recorded my mileage to visit the client - 666 I kid you not!
