Just reading through the AAT magazine about how an office environment can improve productivity and mood of the workplace. There's even a piece from our very own Fox Accountancy Services. No picture though Michelle!?

At the moment I am literally working under the stairs in a cupboard! Will definately be looking for a house with office space when we move. Maybe users could post pics of their office space with comments on what really helps them through the day. Dual monitors is next on my list!

Office that I actually work in on a good day

P1010024.JPG

Not such a good day!

And the office that clients think that I work in!

3 of 8!

P1010028.JPG

And my beloved scrum board.

What works :

Large desk space

Large floor space for sorting shoeboxes of invoices / receipts

three monitors

stacking letter trays

large Scrum board that magnets will stick to (white board)

Bookcases with adjustable shelves

Magazine files

What doesn't work

Filing cabinets

Lever files

What could work better

All of the monitors being the same size

Even more desk space

I'm suddenly feeling very unorganised after seeing the image of your shelving unit!

Impressive change Michelle... Hope that you didn't throw out the little houses (intermediate shelf on the right).

I'm quite jealous of your loft. Mine is huge as well but has those damn cross beams in it making it pretty useless for conversion without serious amounts of work.

If I could though make one comment. eventually your chair will chew up that great carpet you've got. I ended up getting a plastic mat for my let the clients in office (but was already too late for the carpet in which I actually work).

Impressive that your main laptop runs two external monitors.

You're a damn site tidier and neater than I am!

Paperless office as far as possible Shaun! It's my hard drives that are a mess with documents everywhere :)) Yes, new chair to order and a mat! Want to find a mat the same colour as the carpet, that's the challenge! Failing that, will have to be clear. Can't tell you how good it feels to have a separate space to work! Just need shelves over desk, as feel lost without my post its!!!

"Impressive that your main laptop runs two external monitors."

Any laptop with two video outputs should be able to do so. My current laptop is a cheapo piece of of rubbish (an emergency purchase when my other one went a bit iffy) and even that can run three displays: It's own screen, and two others, one via the VGA port, and one via the HDMI port.

I don't actually use it that way, because I don't have two monitors on a single desk to use alongside its own display (but I did test it, by using the different inputs on my main display). TBH, I don't even use a dual display (laptop + monitor) because for that to work sensibly, I find it better to have both running at the same resolution (as well as the displays being [near enough] the same size as you mentioned) and I'm loathe to drop the resolution on main display (1920x1080) to match that of the laptop (which IIRC is just 1360x768).

This is going to change, however.

The main problem is that I'm now using multiple computers at my desk more, and have to keep switching the display between them - less than convenient. So I'm planning on changing from a single 32" 1920x1080 display to two smaller (but still 1920x1080) displays, so I can use both for one, and/or one for each as necessary.

I've also already purchased a proper PC: I'm going to use that at my desk, and just use the laptop when out at clients. A PC is a little easier to upgrade - or repair when things go wrong.
