I have a client who works unsociable hours as a Doorman. How much can he reasonably put through for food and drink in his accounts. He seems to be spending an awful lot :)
He eats to live so it fails the duality of purpose test.
Also those are regular places of work and regular times for his work pattern. Why does he think that the taxpayer is going to compensate him for eating and drinking?
As he's a doorman might be a good idea to tell him that on the phone!

The only self-employed people I know HMRC will allow "reasonable" amounts (without a linked hotel bill) are people who do to their work pattern don't return home for several days, like Long-distance lorry drivers, because they sleep in their vehicle and not in a hotel!
As you say, long distance lorry drivers have their own peculiar arrangement which I always consider more along the lines of a globally available no need to apply for it dispensation available to them.
