Hi All,

I'm Jason, 23, from a town called Ringwood just near Bournemouth on the South Coast.

I'm a member of the AAT and looking to become a MIP in the next couple of months. Have worked previously in bookkeeping and accounting roles and hoping that experience will allow me to start my own small bookkeeping and accounting "firm" on the side of working full time for some additional income.

Looking forward to using this forum more and getting to know everyone!

Hello from the North Jason :)

Sounds like you are well on your journey to self employed status. I did the same, kept a 9 - 5 and self employed going for a bit then took the plunge many years ago, would not change a thing.

This forum is a great go to for help and support, hope you enjoy.

Welcome to the forum Jason, from another up 'norf'!

Is that Ringwood as in the edge of the North Forrest? I love that neck of the woods!

Im a career changer myself, having worked for NatWest for longer than you have been alive - god I feel really old now, thanks!!  no

Good luck with it all.  Hopefully you will love it on here - we are a bit of a mad lot sometimes, but hopefully informative too.biggrin

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

It is indeed! It's a lovely little part of the country and I love taking walks/bike rides into the New Forest, definitely a good stress reliever after a long week!

Thanks both for the welcome!

A big welcome from the Midlands Jason....I have good friends in Ringwood and in neighbouring Verwood. Lovely part of the country and pretty affluent too, so you should be on top rates!

Hello from the South.

Good luck with it all, like Rob says you should get really good rates living where you are, very affluent part, and Bournemouth only down the road, great beaches!

Moores Valley Country park is a favourite of mine.

Glad to be with you all!

I hear of good rates, so that's what I shall be charging(once I work out what a good rate actually is using previous posts on pricing)!

I'm currently set up with VT and doing my Dads bookkeeping for a small fee each month just to keep him ticking along before going to the accountant at the end of the year.

I've also just accepted what I hope will be my last ever employed role, in a firm that can offer me exposure to all things bookkeeping/accounting that I haven't come across just yet.

I plan on using this experience for my proof of knowledge for my MIP application and then getting the heck out of there as soon as I can support myself with some clients and a push in advertising.

Rob, my parents are actually living in Verwood currently, small world! And Amanda, yes Moors Valley sure is nice in the summer, and just as nice on a crisp winters day!

As I said, glad to be with you all, and I plan on keeping the forum updated with my progress to Self Employment :)

Sounds like a good plan.

Jason - I have spent many a time on Bournemouth beach in the summer when the kids were young, great place to go.

Some on here do fixed pricing and some of us on here do hourly pricing. I prefer hourly rates and have definately benifitted from that, but it really does depend where you live and are there a lot of small business in your area that will require help. I do more of the going to premises now and becoming part of the team, I prefer that to annuals who have a carry bag to deal with.

Good luck with it all and keep us posted on your success.
