Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, my searching skills aren't great!
A client has asked me to do his self assessment and I'm not sure how to get them to approve it for filing. I've used Sage in the past which generates a page for their signature once you have started the submission process, as well as them signing the final page, but I'm using HMRC for their return which I've never used before, so I don't really know how it works. I'm fine with the actual tax return, it's just the admin side I'm not familiar with. He lives locally so I'll be getting him to sign the return in person.
Also, do people request payment of fees before the return is submitted? He doesn't strike me as a late payer, but he will have tax, £100 fine, and interest to pay immediately and I want to make sure I get paid!
It's always the friendly ones, Rachel LOL. Yes, I'd get paid and Return signed before submitting. I'm assuming you're using HMRC SA online and know you get few options other than reams of irrelevant pages but as this is almost a one-off, it's easiest to print out a copy each, one for your files and one for his safekeeping.
kind regards, Tim
