AAT MIP to IFA
Permalink Closed

I am thinking of joining the IFA and wanted to know if I could get a practice certificate through them going from AAT MIP. Not sure if I will keep my AAT membership too though. It costs £150 admin fee to the IFA to tell me whether I could join as an MIP. Has anyone on here done a similar move?

Hi Matt AFAIK AAT level 4 will get you AFA. I looked into IFA a while back. £150 is shocking, considering it's non refundable also.

AFA is a Level 5 qualification, so I would be surprised if AAT MIP would give you a full exemption. You might get an AFTA practice certificate which is level 4.

Regards,

Gordon

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Hi Gordon - You are correct, although the AFTA is the tax advisor route. FAE is the financial accountant executive. (Level 4)

Still extremely expensive if the answer is 'No entry'

I have found this

"AAT members may be eligible to join the IFA at membership level"

What is membership level?

The three levels I can find are FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING EXECUTIVE , ASSOCIATE and FELLOW. It looks like you need to be an associate to practice under IFA and to get to that level you need to complete their level 5 qualification. Surely AAT (Which is level 4) wouldn't get you to associate level?
