I've recently started working for an accountant who has Sage for some of his clients' accounts, as well as his own.
I have had only a little experience with Sage. When I click on the Sage icon on the desktop it brings up a list of companies. Some of them can be logged into simply with "Manager" as the ID and no password. However this does not work for all of the companies, including the accountant's own. Is there another default login it could possibly be? Is there another way I could get in to these companies? I know it's desktop but is there a way of doing an "I forgot my username/password" type of reset?
The accountant doesn't use the computer. I have replaced his assistant who left without warning over a month ago and therefore I've had no handover period. I'm finding my way around by looking in drawers and files to try find some clues but still not found these log in details.
I am not aware of any other way of logging into Sage, it is either as you have found via Manager' or password !
The accountants Company - he may not want you to have access to his own books maybe. As for the other Companies, first port of call would be previous bookkeeper, appeal to their good nature in the hope that they come forth with relevant logins. The accountant should have these details I would assume. Alternatively, speak with Sage, although I am assuming this may draw a blank also.
Sorry I cannot be of any help, there are a number of people on this forum who may have the answer.
Its as Julie says and hopefully the Accountant can speak to the previous member of staff (or remember something they were probably told in the dim and distant past).
Manager (with no password) is the only default login and there is no 'I forgot/reset' that Ive come across before, so if you have no joy with the previous person I think that it would need a call to sage but if you havent got sage cover it could be expensive.
Otherwise it might be worth a call to a chap who posts on here (he hasnt been on for a while, but Ive sent him an email via Linkedin to see if this is something he can help with, so let me know how you get on!)

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
Thank you, Julie and Joanne. The accountant does have some sage cover I believe. He is reluctant to call the previous person as they are not well and will only talk to him via an intermediary. There are a few more files and drawers to go through (I feel like a snoop!) but I think he might have to bite the bullet and make that call :/
