Hi,
Have any of you guys, whilst being a client agent, moved house? I'm just wondering if it is plain sailing, or if there are any difficulties involved? Is there any added difficulties in changing address for VAT? Would you, obviously change address with HMRC, and have RM divert your post, just incase, for a month or two? Thanks

Hi
Ive done this - such a pain writing to everyone, but lots can be done on-line. VAT certainly can - go into the online protal with HMRC and it gives you options to change address/add phone numbers and email addresses etc. A lot easier these days. If you have a limited company and your registered address is home - dont forget to change the address on your invoices/other paperwork. Dont forget the AAT etc.
I did a list - always do lists!
Ive used the RM divert - handy for any you forget, or long lost rellies sending you money!!

That was a well timed post.... I'm going to be doing a double whammy this year, change of address and reverting to my maiden name !!! Excellent idea to make a list but also a bit scary to remember to cover all basis, thank goodness lots can be done via online these days :)
Im writing my lists in my head for you two!!!!! My son has just moved and I drove him mad with my lists, but even he had to admit he wouldve forgotten half of it without them.

Hi. Thanks for that. Yes it's enough of a pain to remember to change the ordinary things. I'm assuming after you change address, all goes smoothly? A list is definitely a wise idea me thinks.

Hi Joanne
Do you mean the agents portal?I moved my business address in March last year from home to the office. It went reasonably smoothly, and changing my agent business name and address was an absolute breeze. All done from one letter in the space of 2/3 weeks. One thing that wasn't changed was the name and address for VAT. I did try to change it online but couldn't see how to. If you could direct me to the right place I would be immensely grateful.

Hi John
It wasnt done through agent account, but own login. Just about to go out to clients, so will have a look to remind myself later and post an update.

I moved address 4 years ago, stayed there 2 years, moved again, stayed 1 year and then a year a go moved from 8a to 6a. HMRC VAT still has my address from 4 years ago, for clients from that time.
SA & CT was easy, letter to CAAT, done straight away every thime. Online payroll clients was changed by telephone call - but the agent address for PAYE & VAT didn't up date on HMRC systems otherwise. I had problems passing the security and getting replies to letters. It was when I started getting letters to my old address I realised there was a problem!
I eventually sent a list of all my Payroll clients details with 64-8's (as the originally told me I was not authorised by the clients who I had done online) and that is now up to date. The VAT has never been updated. I was told I should delete the Agent Online VAT account and sign up for a new one, so I declined. I have complained to my MP, 2 months ago, who is trying to get an answer from HMRC VAT on how it can be done.
John - for your own - login in to your own online portal, then look for 'View VAT certificate' - was down on the right hand side of the screen now its all moved.
Then go to change registration details and it allows you to change address, phone number, emails etc. You will need certain information from your shared secrets from the initial set up process. Hey presto - done. Well give it a few days (and go through the same process again and it should show the correct details).
