Aged CIOT papers....

Just had a nose - as you do!! OMG is all I can say. One question actually takes up a full a4 sized page. As a side - I think I could have answered some (I use that term loosely) of it, yet as you start working through the paper, you realise how much you actually don't know. Admittedly most is not relevant to small businesses, yet...

The size of that doesn't seem at all unusual for professional exams?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean. Do you have a link to it and a question number so that I can have a butchers.

Many thanks,

Shaun.

Cheers Johnny,

I'm quite shocked, they look more straight forwards than I expected them to be. (Not saying that I could answer them but read on)

Have you seen ACCA paper P6?

Have a look here :

www.accaglobal.com/uk/en/student/exam-support-resources/professional-exams-study-resources/p6/past-exam-papers/uk.html

I know that the CIOT one's are just as complex under the freindly exterior but on opening it I didn't feel like burying my head in my hands and crying! lol.

I was pondering going back and doing extra ACCA papers (sad as I am I miss the exams!) but now I'm thinking that because CIOT break things down a lot more they may actually be a better option... If I can ever find time to commit to anything at the moment!

Are you going to go for it Johnny?

What are their restrictions now? It used to be that you needed to have ATT, ACCA, ACA or equivalent before they allowed you to sign up as a student but I'm not sure if thats still true.

Hi Shaun,

I was expecting continuous questions akin to -

In section x of x act make reference to x situation -

I'm still not saying it looks easy!

I know there is a application and interaction paper also, with I assume would sort the men from the boys!

The qualification, as far as I can see is made up of -

Two advisory (Difficult / strong knowledge)
One awareness (Not easy, yet the questions seem brief (ish))
The application and interaction paper.

Plus,

If not taken during ATT - Ethics and law e-assessments.

The routes are either by ATT, or the Chartered route.

Student membership lasts for 5 years, for £140 - can transfer from ATT to CIOT, so that is really good value - When compared to other institutes.

I need to get started with ATT - The next release of materials is around June / July, for May 2017 / November 2017 sittings.

I figure starting at the beginning of the year keeps you within the same FA, together with the tolleys yellow and orange books remaining in date for both May and November. As an oppose to sitting November first.

For me to sit and complete CIOT, (All being well of course) it would be purely for the 'Qudos' element.

I do plan on aiming for a chartered status - It still is between 'trying' for CIMA, or CIOT - The others I can't use, even if I gain - ACCA i'm not allowed to study (Reg 8)

Should I not find ATT too complex, after hopeful completion - CIOT may be the next target! Especially as I can transfer membership, as an oppose to paying X amount for exemptions to CIMA, plus entry - although not a sole reason to choose one over the other, it does form a monetary advantage!

The advantage to CIMA is it could lead to a job in industry - if the cloud takes over lol - Not that I'd want to work in industry, but you see my point.

Thanks
