I wondered if anyone could help me out with a problem that I'm having using Sage to complete the course.
When I get as far as the course notes say for aged debtors analysis on page 440 there are 2 A/C items appearing against the same company. Common sense would say delete one of the two items. I cannot find anything to allow me to do this.
Hi You should never delete anything without further investigation and should only be using the sage delete option with extreme caution. Page 440 means nothing to me I'm afraid. What sage type and version? I'd sage 50 __ v ___ or cloudy rubbish sage one?
Also what are the entries invoices or payments on account?

I think that you may have meant to post this on the ICB forum rather than here.
They've cheekily used a very similar name to our's so it's an understandable confusion. The ICB site is www.bookkeepers.org.uk. (no hyphen).
As you are here though, lets have a go at giving you a few pointers (says someone who isn't ICB, has no access to the book that you refer to and doesn't use Sage).
If you simply delete entries would you not be deleting the audit trail? This is not something that you have entered yourself in error that you are attempting to back out but rather something that exists already on the system.
Also, you are making assumptions that because there are two items against the same company presumably for the same amount on the same day then one of them must be in error? What evidence do you have to support that assumption? Do you have access to the invoices for this client to confirm the data?
Now consider that as well from the perspective of VAT. This is an aged debtor so presumably a return has been filed that took into account the same VAT twice. Would Simply deleting an entry correct the VAT issue?
Considering the above and assuming that you can legitimise that the discrepancy is genuine then would you not want to reverse it out rather than simply deleting it?
This response was written as further questions rather than an answer in order to help you think about the issues associated with simply deleting an entry.
Hope that helps.
Shaun.

Lol, this always happens when I'm half writing a response, a quarter working and a quarter watching the rabbit chasing birds in the garden.
think that we're in agreement in our responses but I went for the approach of trying to get them to consider the effects of their actions as the line about just going in and deleting entries made me think that they are still quite early in their studies so need to have their way of thinking adjusted a little.
