Hi, does anybody know if you can claim the cost of fuel for getting to and from work (or mileage) as an employee? the employer does not reimburse the cost. This is one of my clients that has gone employed and is spending massive amounts on fuel to get to his employment 5 days a week. I'm sure when filing a tax return I have seen a box somewhere on the employment pages form claiming fuel as an expenses.
Oh no no no no no no no! Sorry. It used to take me 2 hours each way to get to work so it cost me a fortune, never mind what people pay for city centre parking, plus I know people who spend a lot longer on trains to travel up and down the UK which can cost then £1500pm, yet they dont get any kind of re-imbursement, cos thats life Im afraid! If he doesnt want to pay it he needs to find a job closer to home.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
