Tax Filer - tax return software
Permalink Closed

Hi

So far I have just been using HMRC to manually input my tax returns, I haven't been doing that many, so I couldn't warrant the cost of extra software. But I have been upping my work this year. I had a bit of a read through some other posts on the subject and saw Tax Filer. I signed up yesterday and I am quite impressed. I am only on the basic one with 50 returns (I only work part time around the little ones). I tried TaxCalc a few years ago, but I had another child and work got put to the side.

Is anyone using it? And tips? It was a bit difficult to work out to start, as there is very little help! But I think I know what I am doing now.

My only issue was that I use VT+, and I tried to paste the TB into the system, but it was having none of it! I had to manually input. Anyone use Taxfiler and VT, and ideas to easily transfer stuff?

Thanks Lyndsey

I've never used it. Can you not export a practice tax filer excel map to see what and how it likes to read the import? Hope that makes sense:)

I use taxfiler and vt together. If your create an xbrl file of your final accounts, in the add ins you can simply attach that to the ct600. It's very quick and easy to do.

What have you been using to file accounts - VT final accounts? You say that you are using Taxfiler for tax returns but are you also planning to use it for accounts if you are uploading a TB?

I have not used it for accounts but am happy with it for CT600s although beware that, for all tax returns, you have to know which sections you need to complete and add the page yourself.

I use VT final accounts and attach the ibrxl file like Debbie. If you need help with the accounts then you will need to find people who use Taxfiler for accounts. However I am not ready to use it as still happy with VT. I may consider Taxfiler if I have to manually redo everyone's accounts under FRS102.

Hi Thanks for the responses, I don't do company returns, under my ICB practice licence I am only allowed to do tax for sole traders and partnerships, so no ct600 at the minute. I am switching over to AAT to be able to do this in the near future.

I only have vt transactions, not the final accounts bit. I have been thinking about getting that too, but as tax filer also does final account too so wondering if I need to duplicate.

I may just need to have a bit more of a play around with it.

Thanks Lyndsey

 Hii Debbie,

Could you tell me how in easy way make two tax return in Taxfiler?

I mean that the company has two accounting period:

- first : 03/08/2015 - 02/08/2016

- second : 03/08/2016 - 31/08/2016

I don't know how to split up.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

Hi Hannah, Click on your clients name in the client list, then click on 'returns' in the bar at the top of the page. You can then add a new return and amend the dates to be able to send in 2 returns. HTH Debbie
