Not bookkeeping related, just a heads up to be careful
A friend of mine received an email today from Itunes thanking him for his order. (games) He was quite nonplussed, as games are not his thing, and doesn't have an itunes account
I checked all the links for signs of a fake email and they all linked back to Apple (run your mouse over a link not click on it) and it was only when I checked the last link Manage or cancel your subscription that it linked to an entirely different website.

I get them very regularly and most of the time they are easy to ignore as I know who I am expecting bills from and who my business has dealings with, but as with the Apple one that your friend received John I got one from Adobe asking for a payment that really seemed legitimate (Going into properties for the email the IP address even seemed to point back to Adobe).
I forwarded it to the Adobe anti Phishing team (phishing@adobe.com if anyone needs it... It's not easy to find!). I don't always do that as I get so many but for this one it was so well done that I thought that they needed to have it looked into. After a couple of days got a reply from what must have been the office idiot telling me that it looked genuine as it traced back to their offices.
I responded telling them to look at their systems and find a service that I had signed up for on it. Of course they couldn't which left them with "Oh, maybe it's not genuine".
Why did they not think to look at whether I existed as a customer before replying?
I don't know what happened to things after that as as far as I was concerned I had done my bit and it was now their problem.
Thanks for the heads up about another apparently genuine looking one John.

lol, trust you to get the office idiot! I had one purporting to be from NatWest the other day, do they not realise sending such stuff to an ex member of staff would be spotted!! The gvieaway to me on that one, as well as the massive 'click here to change your password' was in the colour of the email. Thought it was my eyesight at first, but like a badly done colour photo. I slung it into the phishing team anyway.....always like to keep them on their toes!
I do have apple products and itunes but I still just delete their emails. Sooooo wary!
Im teaching my Mum what to look out for - as she is a lady of the slightly older generation who is only just getting IT savvy. Although she does already have the phrase 'just google it' running through her like a stick of rock already it seems.
