I am hoping people could possibly spare the time to offer me your opinion on my proposed new business name.
To give a little background, I have been working under my initials and bookkeeping ( __ Bookkeeping & Business Services) for the last 10 years quite successfully. Following my youngest child now being at school I am looking to expand the business and also to specialise in Farming and Rural Industry so I am currently undergoing some specialist training. I am going to install an additional phone line at home so it makes sense to rebrand since I will have to contact all my current clients anyway.
The proposed name which I have been trying to live with is
Rural Tax Services
I will offer, basic bookkeeping, self assessment, VAT, CIS, Payroll, Year End Accounts in addition to specialist farm records.
While I do wish to appeal to my specialist area, I do not want to put off other potential clients with the word farm etc. I currently work with small tradesmen, tearooms, garages, holiday cottages etc. All really rural based which is what I enjoy and I would like to continue with.
Do you feel this name conveys what I aim to do and appeal to the potential clients I would like ?
I would really welcome feedback, negative or otherwise
Many thanks
Valerie

Hi Valerie
Personally I agree that the use of the word 'farm' in your name (as mentioned in another post) would stop you getting business from other types of clients so you do right by not including that. Also from what you say - you wouldnt be looking to attract any from the nearest big town/city ( although you could still get such by way of recommendation) so I think that the name, to coin a phrase ''does what it says on the tin''.
Good luck with the re-brand.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
The only drawback I can see is that having the word tax may suggest you're a tax specialist. I know you intended to use rural bookkeeping services, but the domain name had already been taken.
As a suggestion, could you have a website like (say) devonruralbookkeeeping, but still call yourself Rural Bookkeeping Services?

Many thanks for taking the time to give me your opinions.
I will certainly take them into account.
I had never considered the use of tax to suggest Tax specialist, only to imply that I am assisting the client in the various taxes - Income Tax, VAT etc. so that is certainly something I should take on board.
Thanks again
