I've just found the forum by accident while searching on whether flights are Vatable!

I'm a Practice Manager for a small specialist consultancy business, I end up doing everything, including the books. I've been working in accounts roles on and off since 1990 (gulp), including as sole bookkeeper to a large-ish textile company. I've also worked in farming, run my own business, worked in wholefoods, done facilities and compliance management, worked for a workers' co-op (interesting), and in my current job have added formal H&S managment, HR and writing tenders.

Hello Fenella and welcome to the site.

I am assuming you are talking about flights you have purchased for eg staff which are wholley and exclusively for the business, as opposed to perhaps advising someone with a business selling flights.

Generally zero rated unless flights they are for eg giving someone a flying experience and not primarily to transport people from one place to another. See VAT notice 744A, section 8.4 gives you some examples of standard rates

Hi Fenella,

welcome to the forum.

Glad you managed to find us with a search as posts under the old site name are not being linked to properly at the moment.

Lol. isn't it always the way that you have one job title but end up doing everything!

Talk soon,

Shaun.

Hi and welcome Fenella

From what I managed to find out: International flights are zero rated but they do sting you with lots of new charges and fees. not sure about flights within the UK sorry. This is in relation to our Director attending necessary partnership meetings etc., so a legitimate business expense.

Waffling a bit cos its Monday!
Now that I've skimmed the link above, Joanne has it all there biggrin

To be fair it was clear from the start that I would pick up anything remotely non-core, that was what attracted me to the job in the first place!

I take it you got the answer elsewhere then and got it sorted, given the gaps in postings.
