VT Accounts - missing headings (driving me mad!)
Permalink Closed

Hi

Probably so easy but I have two missing TB headings, which I thought I had sorted but it appears not.  They are all ok in VT Accounts+ and the TB, P&L and Balance sheet are all ok in there, ist only when I move to Accounts that the bl**dy things scew the figures.

Pleassssssssssssssse can someone tell me how to sort them.

need more info Joanne,

tell me exactly whats missing?

What do you mean by screw the figures?

Remember that VT Accounts is in stats format where VT+ is more management accounts friendly. Some of the info that you would see on the face of the account in T+ is in the notes in the stats. Also some fields get subsumed within each other presented as offsets rather than individually.

Hi Shaun
I had to assign headings for two accounts - professional subs and computer and web costs. So set up those names in the assign list (via the Accounts module).

Ok was being pedantic as there is a 'subscriptions' line but wanted it to reflect EXACTLY the prior year.

Anyway - when I the clicked on 'Get balances from VT file' all the balances carried through perfectly to P&L and BS EXCEPT the balances on these two accounts above - which were not deducted as expenses in the P&L, but their balances remained in the P&L figure on the Balance sheet. So its as if the expenses were never incurred (if that makes sense).

was the sorting it out by mapping the additional VT+ fields to VT Accounts?....

Right. Apprentice final is on at nine. Set that as your cut off time. Go open a bottle of something now to give it chance to breath ((No, no... put it down... Chugging it from the bottle is unladylike!) and at nine just take an hour for you.

I knew that you would suss this anyway though as sometimes we just need someone to talk at rather than needing them to say anything in reply.

All the best,

Shaun.

I just went via the TB analyser icon, then created a new heading. Then it said you need to insert a new financial line in the P&L2 - so thats what I did.

Although - then I changed then, being pedantic (well wanting to learn..why the hell now I dont know as Im on a tight deadline!?!?!?!) but I decided to change the year one depreciation from fixed assets blurblur 'fwd'  to fixed assets blur blur 'cost' and now when I update the excel in the Accounts module I seem to lose everything in the P&L below the bloody GP line!!

In case you hadnt guessed Im about ready to throw the PC out of the window.

Working or indeed staying awake, although now you have reminder me the Apprentice final is on I might struggle just to watch it - go Alana! Havent the all the candidates been pretty rubbish this year, reckon he wouldve fired them all but that would go against his contracts with the Beeb!

I knew that you would suss this anyway though as sometimes we just need someone to talk at rather than needing them to say anything in reply.  No - I need  someone to talk to. Someone to show me hands on. Or better still .....an Accountant.

lol
All the best,  Back at ya!   Hope you are finishing for an hour at 9 as well. Straight from the bottle saves on washing up - time saving, water saving and fairy liquid saving too.

Shaun.    Jo biggrin

Yep, I'm in the Alana supports club as well :)

All the way through she's seemed to me the nicest and most honest of the bunch where this year there's been some particularly blatant liars, bullies and backstabbers in the group (as well as a good share of incompetents)

Plus of course, Alana's a cake maker so I would have guessed that you would have been routing for her anyway.

Now, put that PC down. Back away from the window and go find that wine.... And well thought through in the practicalities of drinking straight from the bottle....

Laters.

Hi Joanne

Yep what Shaun describes is pretty much what you've done.  That was my first thought when I saw your OP.  Can't suggest on your other problem though :(

I hope you took Shaun's advice and you got that bottle open!!

Hi John
Thanks for that. Shaun is using proper terminology as usual, I was waffling as usual. I thought with the other issue that if I changed something in the software that it would update the final accounts if I pressed the little grab from VT icon (no idea what the terminology is as you can tell and not sitting in front of VT just now!), but it worked fine when I just did a brand new excel, although then I had to allocate my headings again, so now I'm a whizz on that!!

I took Shaun's advice and watched the Apprentice, but didn't open that bottle in the end. -(
