I just wondered if anybody has footballers as clients?  I have spoken to a few footballers who claim back travel expenses and buying kit.  I would be really interested in knowing if there are any other expenses they can claim back?  Also when it comes to travel expenses - can they only claim for away games - or travel to the training ground if this is not the stadium they play in?

All help appreciated,

thanks,

Denise

Expenses should be covered by the clubs they play for after submission of an expenses claim form as for any employee of any company. Kits are usually paid for by the clubs as is the laundering of such kits. Rules for such are covered by the Scottish Football Association and HMRC rules in terms of what expenses are paid and how they are then reportable/taxed (P11D'd in past/new system via payroll).

Its usually only non contract or semi pros that occasionally have to pay for kit, yet these are also covered by the SFA rules.

Expenses, tax etc is a complex area for footballers and requires specialist knowledge. There is actually a specialist section within HMRC that deals with their tax.

Far too complex and detailed for this forum in the middle of mad January Im afraid.

Hi Denise

Just a warning - there isnt much on their website that is visible.    As I say its very specialised and most of that kind of work is looked after by specialist tax teams even in the Chartered firms.

When I mentioned specialist section within HMRC - I meant a specialist division/team of people.   (Based  in Liverpool if I recall correctly.)
