Hi, what literature would you recommend for a bookkeeper to stay up to date with all the changes that affect the profession? Financial Times perhaps? What do you subscribe? Thanks

Are you part of a professional body? HMRC, Aweb, PQ Magazine. Twitter feeds from those mentioned too. Tax Advisor for - Tax.

Have you got to do a CPD list? So many suggestions, not enough time!

this is a part of my CPD, yes.I was wondering if there is a magazine/newspaper etc that is worth subscribing and will always mention any updates, changes, proposition of changes that affect bookkeepers, i.e changes in dividends' tax, allowable expenses for limited companies or self employed etc

Up to yet I've not found a 'one stop shop' which would suit your needs - I've looked!

There are resources available which claim to be extensive, CCH and LexisNexis come to mind. Both are expensive.

If you're a MIP with the AAT you should get access to a fair amount of CCH content.

Decent magazines - Tax Advisor, PQ, NQ, Accounting Technician, CIMA FM, ACCA - ACCA also have some great technical articles within their website.

HMRC website is obviously an important stopping point.

Best source of information on tax rate changes is within the Finance Act. All other Acts, in their grand English written form can also be accessed online too.

Again depending upon where you're now, qualification wise, you could always go for the next, for instance, if you're ICB qualified you could study towards completing the AAT syllabus, or if you've the AAT qualification you could go for the ATT qualification.

Gosh that would be a really thick magazine.

Try Tolleys to start you off.

Maybe have a word with your bosses at work (once Jan is over) - they might have specific areas they wish to cover.

Doing AAT is (another) start

well not necessary, if it'd be a magazine that is out quarterly and contains all the important changes/plans for changes for a bookkeeping of micro entities, or small businesses. I don't think there is so many changes to the law every 3 months, is there? I'm not talking about existing rules, just updates ahhhh that would be so easy, you buy this and you know it contains everything :) oh well....

Why just micro and small businesses - thats not fair to those of us who look after bigger corporates and PLCs! wink

This might make you smile....very good for insomnia, or just battering clients with (instead of dangling them from a great height head first!)

wow! this is...impressing! I thought separately for micro, small etc so a bookkeeper could choose what they are interested in, if they do certain size of businesses..... I wouldn't even have space to put those in!
