I haven't been around for some time, but thought I'd come back and ask an awkward question!
Has anyone tried installing VT Transaction + in Linux, using Wine? Apparently it has been done, but these details were posted several years ago, so things may have changed. I'm trying to get it to work, but as the instructions are just slightly beyond my abilities with Linux at the moment, I can't be sure whether it's me not being able to follow the instructions, or if VT won't work anyway! I'm using Linux Mint 18.1 and Wine 1.6.2.
Any experience, suggestions, or idiots guides to making it work would be appreciated.
I tried it a few months ago. The installation went okay, but whenever I tried to run either VT Transaction+ or VT Cashbook, I got a couple of errors and it quit. I think one was permission related, which could be 'Okayed' past, then it was a runtime error - and clicking okay on that was immediately followed by it quitting.
I didn't try to solve it or look any further because my knowledge of Lunux "under the bonnet" was (and still is) minimal.
It is worth noting, though, that there has recently been a significant new version of WINE released: www.winehq.org/announce/2.0
I haven't as yet, but at some point (when I'm less busy) I will install that and go through the Windows applications that I couldn't get working with the version I have installed - which was basically all of the ones I use!

Thanks Vince. I more or less understand the stuff I've read online about installing the missing DLLs, but can't quite get my head round actually doing it, although I'm trying. I'm aware of Wine 2.0, and am hoping it will eventually appear as a system update. I'm reluctant to start installing software manually at the moment, as my "under the bonnet" knowledge is also limited. It's a bit frustrating, as I think there are only two Windows programs I want installed. One went perfectly, as it was written to make it easy to install, so VT is possibly the only one that is more challenging, and I don't really want to spent ages learning skills I may only use once!
