Taxfiler help and grumble
Permalink Closed

I've just completed some accounts using VT+ then importing the trial balance to taxfiler.

As can be seen from the screenshots  (edited to include them , thanks Joanne)  I'm getting an error saying that the brought forward figure from 2014-15 is showing £5153 and it should be £5154, but £5153 is correct on the VT+ balance sheet, and is correctly shown on the taxfiler balance sheet.  Best way to fix?*

Grumbles.

In 2014-15 I had sales of £26k and subcontractor costs of £12k. For some reason taxfiler chose to lump both under sales, even though there is a section for subcontractors on their trial balance sheet.

Taxfiler failed to recognise cash on the import from VT, seems a strange one not to recognise.

*Probably  hypothetical as I have ordered VT accounts today so will just be using taxfiler to submit to HMRC.

Hi John
No screenshots!

I dont use Accounts in Taxfiler - it looks ok on the surface but has a bit of a bad rep in the fact that its not easy to change things (such as I assume, your example) and its a bit basic. With the VT Accounts you can just attach the ixbrl. I tried the Accounts briefly in Taxfiler but ended up attaching the ixbrl from VT as it was driving me a bit mad (although Im Mrs Impatience Personified - just in case you didnt know that already!!)

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

Thanks Joanne, I've added the screenshots. I've never liked the accounts import side,  I'm guessing the problem is due to different roundings in the two programs.  As soon as I've got my VT accounts serial number I'll do an ixbrl, that way I'll know it's correct.

Hi John,

change the precision to see what the figures really are (bottom left, options).

whats on the screen is £5153 but seems that it was rounded down in VT+ but rounded up in Taxfiler. I sometimes get variances like that between VT Tran+ and VT Accounts but you know me, I get a roundig error and I'll spend a day trying to find why it's out by pennies. Most likely the figure will be exactly 50p meaning that you are really 1p off to balancing.

By default in VT+ I have mine set to two dec places and only lose the precision in the VT Accounts package.

HTH you find the issue,

kindest regards,

Shaun.
