Coding change required - two jobs
Permalink Closed

Hello

I'm currently doing payroll for a client who has two jobs. His main job is using his personal allowance and his second role is BR, this is the payroll I am doing.

He has now left his main job, however, I have not received a coding change yet so he his still on BR. Should I call HMRC to chase up.

I believe I need HMRC to notify me of the change.

Thanks

Hi Christopher
Does depend on when the p45 was issued. Oh if only RTI was actually real time!!! In truth you might not see something until after 5 July. If you need it before then try HMRC yourself. Or even get him to phone.

My son had a wrong coding on his payroll due to HMRC for some reason thinking he worked for a company who he hadn't actually worked for and left over 6 years ago and then he only worked there for 2months! He put them straight 10 days ago but we and his employer are still waiting for the revised coding notice.

Hello Cheshire,

Thanks for you messages, very rude of me not to reply sooner.

It was helpful thank you.

The p45 was dated April 2017 so I thought I should have rec'd coding change by now.

Hi
You absolutely should've received something by now!! HMRC in disarray. How did you get on when you phoned? Or were you left hanging on the phone for 45 minutes to then be cut off?!!!

Quick update.

HMRC said I should have rec'd a new code before now! However, they suggested I could use the p45 instead of P6/9

Seems to make sense, client will now have tax refund which is correct
