Sage - what code to use
Permalink Closed

Hi there

I am new so hello to you all.

Halfway through my AAT studies I am soon to take over the books for a security firm which I agreed as it is a very simple set up. It currently keeps very basic records not even organised like ledgers. I want to transfer to sage. However the majority of purchases are the hire of self employed security guards so would I still treat as a purchase under 5000? They don't charge VAT either. Also, what code do I put myself under as a bookkeeper charging for my services?

I know it is a silly question but your help would be greatly appreciated and I hope to gain from your expertise from hereon in as I ask more silly questions!

How to code for services

Hi Maddy,

welcome to the forum.

You might want to say in the title that this is a Sage question.

As you appreciate Bookkeepering and Sage are not synonymous.... What are they on at the moment? Does the client actually want to change? Will they lose access to information if they change? If so, how will you access historic information if you are allowed to move systems?

Shaun.

Many thanks. I was trying to phrase the question and did mean to go back and add a more relevant title. The business is very very small, a handful of sales invoices a month with about 6 security guards providing self employed services who are paid monthly. They use excel at present but is not in ledger format - just running totals of invoices per month which are pretty similar every month. I will keep their system going but will use sage alongside to give the choice later on as the business develops - the new director is happy for this.

Should the security guards be self employed is the question you need to be asking and very quickly, especially if this is a newish business. Thinking IR 35 here. They get paid monthly - so submit purchase invoices I assume? Do they 'stack' up on the evidence as being self employed (and could you argue such in the event of an HMRC inspection?)

When you mention sage or indeed any kind of software it is worth mentioning the version - Sage 50 -----whatever and the version type. Helps to better pitch the answers.
