Been asked (through a client) if I can set up someone as self employed, but it's only so they can submit an invoice (not to my client) for a one off. Am I right in recalling that you can just notify HMRC if the amount is below £2000? Invoice is for £1650 so its close, or am I probably best off doing it anyway in case she gets any future self employed work.

Any advice given is for general guidance and professional advice should be sought applicable to your circumstances.
HMRC says you can contact them if your untaxed income is less than £2500, however I did always think that this was only for rental income (not sure why)
I think you should speak to the woman yourself about her plans for the future and see if more self employment work is on the cards if it is a possibility then register her as self-employed and hopefully you will have a new client, if this is a one off and she can just declare this amount to HMRC I would leave it at that, that's just my opinion
