I was just wondering how others go about reminding clients (sole traders/partnerships) who have not submitted there Tax Returns as of yet.
I only have 3 outstanding and spoke to all of them about a month ago explaining the deadlines and all agreed to get their accounts to me by the beginning of Dec, my plan was if I have still not received them by early January then to send letters as a final prompt and if they still do not get the accounts to me then they will have to suffer the penalties.
Just wanted to know what others do in these cases?

I've only got 4 that need the bookkeeping side doing first, and one of them is only a couple of months worth. Will be chasing this week, but usually I'm not panicking.

Hi Doug
Those who promised to get info to you by early December, I would send an email by the latest end of next week reminding them of their promise and stating that if it is not with you by x date (mid December latest I would suggest #) then you cannot guarantee the filings will be made by the deadline. Remind them of the price increase for being x months behind their year end deadline (or whatever is built into your terms). If you havent built one in do so now - maybe say if its not with you by end of December the price doubles/trebles. Include in your reminder the penalties/charges that will be incurred on late filing and late payments and the appropriate deadlines so they cannot throw that back in your face.
# You might only have three, but what happens next year when you have 53 or 203? Besides mostly I would say if they cant be arsed getting the paperwork to you in a timely fashion why should you run around like a lune to get their filings done (# way too much pressure on Accountants). Or translated as - they will have had 8 months to get some measly bits of manky paper to you, yet you only get one month to translate it into something which keeps their taxes down. Slight imbalance there methinks.

Must admit I have not included deadlines in my terms but it is something that I will start to include and I do like the idea that if the paperwork is not with me by a certain time that my fees will increase.
Cheers
P.S Xmas tree and decorations all up (not my doing as all was done while i was sitting around having a beer and watching football) but i do secretly enjoy all the build up despite pretending to be the Grinch

I know John wouldve been watching the same scoreline as me yesterday (and dredding next Sunday!).
I missed it!!!! Unfortunately I had to be somewhere else. I watched the Man City game though today and was willing West Arm to win or it to be a draw.
Watching WH play against Everton earlier in the week I did expect it to be a walkover for City, but to be fair WH played well.
Will definitely be watching next weeks game, will you be at the match? I think Man U could snatch it if they continue to play like they have been recently.
4 hour brunch? You must be well stuffed!!! Which reminds me of a works Christmas do I went to several years ago. The previous year we had gone to an american restaurant, all you can eat and had what I wanted to eat before I'd got properly drinking. Now I can't drink on a full stomach so I was pretty much sober by the end of the night. This particular year was all you can eat at a Chinese restaurant so I deliberately didn't have anything to eat when it was laid out. Later I decided it was time for something to eat, hadn't realised how quickly the time had passed and it had all been cleared away!!!
That said, I was serenaded by a pretty asian lady singer (at least I hope it was a lady) who had been bribed by a workmate to sing hey big spender to me.

As a Chelsea boy, for the first time in my life I will probably be cheering for United on Sunday just so it closes the gap between us and City but more than likely will be hoping for a draw, after watching City against West Ham I do think you have a good chance of beating them.
AFC Fylde if they can win the replay a nice trip to sunny Bournemouth, a nice little earner

My old boss was a Chelsea fan, you can imagine the discussions! Been past your old stomping ground a fair few times but never in it, despite seeing the two play many times. Best match I went to between the two still has to be a certain meeting at the old Wembley in 1994, in part because it was that hallowed ground and the fun and games we had getting down there and back home, never mind the poor Chelsea fans sitting in front of us each time we scored.
