i have found a few past posts on autoentry but wondered if anyone is using anything else on a regular basis. i haven't yet had a demo of anything so was hoping to get a short list from recommendations on here. How reliable are they? Do they categorise things correctly. What about stuff like Amazon where the account could be any number of things, how does it do that? Pricing? I can't find any pricing on the receipt bank website. We use mainly QuickBooks Online with a few clients on Xero so would be interested in any experiences linking with those. Thanks

Lots on here about receipt bank already from what I can recall. Sure I put the Accountants package pricing at some point. Just ring them, but don't get sucked in.
AutoE gets better reviews from what I've seen anecdotally.
Use free trial periods to test them.

Trial both RB and Autoenty and see what you prefer. RB is probably the market leader due to is slick advertising and it is faster generally processing receipts within 90 mins whereas AE can take longer.
RB now has an unlimited client and submission version for accountants/bookkeepers but at £600 + VAT per month isnt cheap.
We currently use AE and prefer it to RB as find it better at recognising duplicates and non invoices. Plus can also use it with sales invoices and to upload bank statements.
We can also buy credits and spread across all our clients.
To be worth switching to RB we would need to use 48k AE credits a year or equivalent to 20 purchase invoices a month over 200 clients.
We have only introduced AE to new clients over the last year and are going to do a webinar explaining AE to all clients and either offer it to them to use themselves if they do their own bookkeeping at 20p per credit or give it free of charge if they take one of our bookkeeping packages.
i have been looking at Hubdoc and Autoentry. Autoentry seems to have the best funcationality and works well wth QuickBooks Online. However. It's about 17p per credit and it's at least one credit to enter each bill. So my dreams of using it for big piles of Travis perkins bills is sort of shot because the cost of using Autoentry is higher than that cost of me entering the invoices manually. Can anyone let me know how a bookkeeper could actually make money out of using Autoentry?

I understand where you're coming from, and , unless you're really busy there's not much of a saving, other than freeing up some time. If you can process 100 items yourself in an hour then I totally agree, that £20 is better off in your pocket. I employ a data entry person to input the heavy stuff, and even if it took two hours it would be the same price (I'm not VAT registered) and I'd sooner pay her if I'm honest.
I can see Autoentry working for a big firm like Mark's but not one (wo)man bands, unless they're mega busy and the time saved allows them to take on more work.

Dont know what your hourly rate is but lets say it is £25 per hour and lets say you can post and match 30 purchase invoices in an hour.
Using Autoentry lets say you are 3 times more efficient and can process 90 invoices in that same hour. For the methodology to work you wouldnt charge based on time but on invoices processed. You normally would charge £25 for 30 invoices so therefore you would charge £75 for 90 (but would only take an hour of your time to process). You would pay autoentry £13.50 for the 90 invoices (90 x 15p which is the cost of processing at least 500 invoices per month as you can spread the credits across any client). So you would make £61.50 (£75 - £13.50) and only take an hour rather than 3 hours. That would free up 2 hours which you could either to provide value added services such as business development to your client or spend time enjoying what you do in your spare time (hobbies, families/friends).
If you charge per the hour then I take your point you wouldnt make money as you would charge £25 as before but be left up with £11.50 after autoentry's cost. However we dont charge based on time but use other pricing strategies.
Plus 90% of bookkeeping we do we do from our office with the client either sending in the hard copy records or nowadays more likely they are uploading to autoentry via phone app/email/scanning. So client doesnt actually see how long we are taking.
